“All the traditional models for doing things are collapsing; from music to publishing to film, and it's a wide open door for people who are creative to do what they need to do without having institutions block their art.”

- Ava DuVernay

VERCIS

A 3-PART DOCUMENTARY SERIES

(Voices, Experiences, Reflections of COVID-19 in Society)

PART 1: I'M NOT YOUR HERO

VERCIS (Voices, Experiences, Reflections of COVID-19 in Society) is a short three part documentary series on the psychological impact and social inequalities of the pandemic and specifically the effects on our healthcare providers and communities. It sheds light on the effects of Covid-19 through stories that have not been told by the mainstream media, and mostly on the mental health and financial instability of minority health professionals on the frontlines.

Oscar nominated Director Kelley Kali tells these stories by featuring the work of Shared Harvest Foundation (SHF), a Black and woman-founded social enterprise focused on strengthening communities through promoting physical, financial and emotional health. The first installment of the series is “I Am Not Your Hero” features the journey of co-founder, Dr. Briana Young and the challenges she faces head on juggling motherhood, emergency medicine and suicide. Producers include Dr. NanaEfua Afoh-Manin and Bettina Fisher, Senior Director of OSCARS Academy Gold Education Initiative. Defining Entertainment is the Production Company. “I Am Not Your Hero” will premiere on Juneteenth and be available for viewing at select film festivals throughout the year. “I Am Not Your Hero” may be available for private screening at a film festival near you.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Shared Harvest made a purposeful shift to address both the crisis of debt and other social determinants of health as well as fill the access gap for those facing social, economic, and health inequities in marginalized communities by creating MyCovidMD and Vaxequity Program dedicated to health navigation, education, testing and vaccination.

As we want to ensure that a broad audience can view this dynamic and powerful documentary, we request your support for the screening of the film. Your generous donation will fund our outreach to medical schools, residency programs and film festivals.

We are also accepting donations of billboard lease space and other out of home advertising important to capture a wide audience of South LA that might not be captured online.
